I’ve driven by Louie’s a couple of times just West of 101st and Sheridan and kept reminding myself to go in. I finally did. I happen to be there during a basket ball game which might account for the not so great service, but I liked it enough that I went back the next day for lunch. I like the seating outside and the bar that opens up to the outside. The waitress was friendly but once she served our food we really didn’t see her again until we were nearly done. Having said that, I got the Theta burger and it is pretty darn good. My companion got some other burger and she said it was good also. Like I said, I went back for lunch the next day and sat inside. The decor is very nice, plenty of sports stuff (its a sports bar . .Duh) and plenty of TVs. Service was good as was the food. I would recommend this place for a number of reasons . . . the outside seating, the open bar, the main restaurant decor and atmosphere. All in all, this place is a winner. I will go back soon.
Nothing says summer like meat straight off the grill. These delicious shish-kabobs were super easy to make adding cut up pieces of steak, chicken, onions, grape tomatoes, green peppers and mushrooms. The flavor is unbelievable and makes a well rounded, healthy meal!
Summertime is here and that means lazy days spent by the lake, time with friends and family and best of all delicious food. We love barbecue and are looking forward to barbecuing by the pool and frequenting the many amazing barbecue restaurants in Tulsa. Before the fourth of July we wanted to provide you a chance to choose your favorite barbecue restaurant in Tulsa! Don’t forget that all these restaurants offer catering and to go orders, perfect for a last minute meal

With summertime here nothing is better than a delicious frozen dessert. Tired of snow cones and Popsicles I stopped by Freshberry, with a friend, for a refreshing change. I had not had a chance to stop by yet and I had been anxious to give it a try. Not sure what I wanted, I decided to try a smorgasbord of wonderful fruit flavored ice cream. I had a bowl with Acai Berry, Mango and Tart ice cream topped with strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and granola. Wow! This was an absolutely fantastic dessert. The berries at Freshberry were very fresh and delicious. I couldn’t image something more satisfying on such a hot day. I will definitely be back.
If you are ever in the mood for some finger licking good barbecue then be sure to head on down south to “This is It!”, some of the best barbecue in Georgia. The brisket sandwich was amazing with perfectly spicy barbecue sauce on grilled Texas toast. The macaroni and cheese was a perfect mixture of cheesiness! This is absolutely some of the best barbecue in the South!
It took me a long time to stop in at Ted’s Cafe Escondido in Broken Arrow because every time I went by it was packed; Now I know why.
First of all, the decor is very nice and clean. But the part that really stands out to me is the staff. I am so used to the typical non-expressive, never-learned-to-say-”thank you” kids waiting tables that the Cafe Escondido folks really jumped out.
After we were seated, nobody immediately showed up, but a girl working another table came over and said “I’m not your waitress but can I go ahead and get your drinks”? I was dumbfounded that someone in the service business actually got the concept of providing service!! Then our waitress showed up and the rest was flawless, just absolutely flawless.
So thinking I may have hit them on a good day, I took some other people on a seperate occasion. Well much to my pleasure, we got the same service just from different people. We also saw the same service throughout the restaurant, so I know we weren’t just getting lucky with the right staff person. In fact, I was so impressed that I considered talking to the manager to find out what the secret was to the service people looking like they were enjoying their jobs and actually providing outstanding service. I still should do that sometime.
So as you might guess, I highly recommend Ted’s Cafe Escondido in Broken Arrow.
Wanting to introduce a friend to one of my favorite Mexican restaurants, I took them to Campadres in Owasso. We went to a late lunch on Sunday afternoon. We got seated immediately which was nice. We ordered the white cheese sauce which is amazing especially if you eat it with jalapenos. I ordered a chicken chimichanga with white cheese sauce and a side of guacamole. It was delicious and so big that I could only eat half of it. My friend ordered the steak fajitas which had a ton of meat and were cooked perfectly. It was a perfect Sunday afternoon meal and one that I will not soon forget.
I have noticed that over the years Chinese buffets in Tulsa have been getting worse. I don’t know if it is objectively related to the lost quality of such buffets or I myself have been getting pickier about food and décor lately. Nevertheless, it has become difficult for me to enjoy any of the Chinese buffets you can find in Tulsa. My last trip to New World Buffet on 71st & Mingo was anything, but enjoyable. Our business (www.spalux.org) is located not very far and we go to different places for lunch and dinner in a 3 mile radius all the time.
It was lunch time and it was raining that day. My wife and I were hungry. Since we had not been to any buffets for a long time we decided to go to New World Buffet. The restaurant was relatively full of people filling themselves with food. A hostess took us to a table which was freshly wiped and therefore its surface was still wet requiring a few dry napkins to make it feel like a clean table again. We ordered ice water and went to get the food. And, that’s is where a big surprise was awaiting. The floor around the tables with food was completely wet. People were walking around very carefully, some were slipping and no signs “Wet Floor” were observed. Since we had never seen anything like this at a restaurant we had to ask why the floor was wet. The answer was: “They are always wet when it’s raining”. Because we were inside the building I was so stunned by this curious explanation that I forgot to ask “How have you been avoiding people slipping and falling down on it all this time?” I thought about it later, when I was trying to digest my food that was obviously so salty (or contained so much MSG) that I had to drink five or six large glasses of water during the remainder of the day. How the heck could they avoid being sued?
I have to be honest and say that the Mongolian BBQ was OK. It was something I personally enjoyed. As for the rest of the food, it was questionable, to say at least. We tried Sushi which was obviously a Chinese version of this dish and had nothing to do with its Japanese namesake. Deserts were pretty good combined with some fresh fruit. However, I don’t know anybody who would go to a Chinese buffet for the deserts. We finished our meal and wholeheartedly agreed to never come here again.
Sorry that Tulsa has lost its grounds in Chinese restaurants. Let’s hope that someday we will be able to enjoy good Chinese cuisine again, and plenty of it!
If you are looking for a healthy alternative this summer consider throwing some shrimp on the grill. These shrimp were coated in Lowery’s Baja Chipotle sauce, grilled to perfection and then placed on this colorful salad. This is a delicious healthy meal that is still BOMB!
Upon arriving at the Taste of Bixby, I was excited about the event. I was a little less thrilled when I walked in the door having already paid $22 on this event that had been advertised as $15 on the Chamber of Commerce website. Now don’t get me wrong I don’t mind paying the $22, it was just frustrating, in that I was expecting it to be $15. I had to pay $5 for parking which was not mentioned in the advertising and then at the entrance is was informed that the ticket was $15 but that there was a $2 service fee. But then again, I may have gotten a deal because the ticket that they gave me said it was $18.
The event was better than expected from that point. For being such a beautiful day it would have been nice to have been outside, however I really enjoyed getting to see the inside of the Spirit Event center which was a really nice venue. It was a really great chance to meet some local restaurant owners and sample some of the amazing food they were offering. There are a few restaurants that I can’t wait to try at their actual locations now. One that I really enjoyed was the Golf Club which had amazing crab cakes. I finally got to try some of Tulsa’s best ham from The Hamlet. The honey kissed ham was delicious and I can’t wait to try their ham sandwiches. It’s Greek to Me, Tulsa’s first hookah bar, was there and I got to try their amazing Baklava. I also loved trying the berry pie from Kari Okie Café and Bakery. I want to get by there and give their cheeseburger a shot, as well as to check out the jalapeno bottle caps. It seems like it would be a really fun restaurant to visit especially, with kids. It was great to see Indigo Joes there. I have been a long time fan of their Bleu cheeseburger, however I didn’t previously know that they had awesome fall off the bone ribs.
I also appreciated the great live music. Everyone enjoyed the music of Miles Ralston, a local musician and jazz guitarist. After hearing his music, I know that he will be the first one that I will recommend if someone is looking for some amazing local talent. If you would like to book Miles or see him at his next show check out his website www.milesralston.com and visit his Show page.
Overall the event was great. I think that it would be an excellent event to have more frequently than just once a year. I had a really wonderful time and am excited to go back next year. Be sure to check out the video below to see some of the other amazing food and restaurants that we got a chance to sample.
