Thanks for the Rhone white tip; this sounds great (and in my price range). I had a lovely white pinot noir a few months ago that really challenged my preconceptions of and expectations about white wine.

I'd really love to see a feature on port and madeira in the future. When I lived in California my Portuguese friend from Madeira Island was my source, and now I'm not sure what to buy.

Thank you Mark for the great insight and information.
I know next to nothing about wine but want to learn and this is super helpful for me.
Have a well day and a great Thanksgiving!

Thanks for the kind words. Good hunting.

There were two $10-11 wines I can't believe I neglected, one Gewurz and one Rhone white, which is an AMAZING value.....

Perrin et Fils, Cote du Rhone, 2007 Blanc - is rich and surprisingly complex for around $11. The Alexander Valley Vineyards, North Coast, 2007 "New Gewurz" Gewurztraminer is another great value. Lots of lychee fruit. If you like Gewurz with a little sweetness, this $10 wine is a wine for you!

This is a great read, Mark. You certainly know your wines. I love reading your stuff every time they post. My wife loves the whites. We are having a huge Thankgiving dinner, Turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, sauerkraut, big rolls, pumpkin and apple pie!!!

This is really helpful, thanks! I'm going to try and track down some of these recommendations in my neck of the woods. Here's my Thanksgiving menu:

Herbed roasted chicken and gravy
Mashed Yukon Gold potatoes
Braised Brussels sprouts
Pumpkin pie and real whipped cream
