Best Cheap Eats from UrbanSpoon – What do you Think?

February 18th, 2010 by Staff – Comments (12)

I have never met someone that is not in some way on a search for good food.  From my experience, good food at a great value is hard to come by and unless you have an open mind sometimes this can be hard to accomplish. You have to be willing to take all recommendations and in some cases travel a great distance or to a less desired part of a town. For me this comes natural, not to mention… I’ll eat just about anything cooked up in a restaurant.

Baja Jack’s Burrito Shack

Below is a list of the top 10 cheap eats in the Tulsa area according to the UrbanSpoon website. Urban Spoon is a national food website that happens to be very useful, especially if you have an iPhone. The website has a simple voting system and is full of honest reviews about Tulsa area restaurants. Check it out for yourself…

Ahhh but what do you mean by cheap? Long John Silver’s has fish and chips for $4, and nearby Kilkenny’s has fish and chips for $9. But the English-style (they won’t admit they’re English but they are)chips are so good you want to fly to London and brag about them. So in my view Kilkenny’s is a better deal. Some other great deals: a half-pound wood-grilled burger made of excellent meat, with a mountain of fries for $9 at Stonehorse lunch. BBQ at that prize-winning Buffalo BBQ stand in Sperry. And how about this… if you had a restaurant in a really upscale neighborhood in NYC with breathtaking decor and innovative, delicious dishes (big portions too) for under $20, there’d be lines out the door. So how about it for under $10? KEO. Or lunch at Tuccis, outdoor garden in fine weather, pasta plus a sprightly salad for $8. And yeah there’s Claud’s, best burgers around and the decor a movie location scout’s dream. And, if you can ever find the guy, Grumpy’s Dogs hot dog stand on 15th, world’s best hot dogs, smoked over wood for $3. Can’t beat that!

Brian, hush – I don’t want everyone to make a run on Grumpy’s Dogs and not leave me any.

I went to Leena’s Mediterranean Grill attached to Woodland Hills mall. They have a platter (pick salads/dips, then veggies/sides, then a meat). It was about $11, but enormous. It went on two plates. Let me say that I can eat a whole Mazzio’s large pizza. But I ate 1/2 of this platter, and took the rest home. So figure you get two full meal’s worth out of $11, and you have a great deal. Pretty good food too.

Umbertos has the best pizza in the area code, best as I can tell.

    And, its economical.

Stunning quality and a family-friendly environment to eat. Its not fancy, and the TVs help keep young ones entertained until the food arrives.

My two kids eat better at Umbertos than just about anywhere.

Tip of the hat, and man, I’m hungry for an Umbertos pizza right now!
