Thursday, December 3, 2009 at 12:00 p.m Central Time, Join Gale Gand and McCormick for a live, interactive virtual cooking demonstration. Join Gale Gand, nationally acclaimed pastry chef, restaurateur,
cookbook author, television personality and mother of three as she celebrates an iconic pairing of the holiday season: Vanilla and Red Food Coloring. This festive pair will be featured in many family-friendly holiday baking recipes and tips that are sure to put a spin on the traditional family favorites. Participants can bake alongside Gale and join in the conversation by submitting questions during the Live baking class.
Here is an example of one of the versatility of vanilla. Vanilla balances, mellows and provides depth to even the simplest of dishes. “One of my favorite touches for a special treat is to add a splash of vanilla to pancakes, waffles or French toast. It adds a rich flavor without any extra time or effort,” says Gale. When it comes to red food coloring, Gale’s go-to-garnish during the holidays is a red tinted sugar. ” I love to edge cupcakes and rim festive martinis with red sugar and it’s easy for kids to help make. Simply pour granulated sugar in a baggie, add a few drops of red food coloring, then zip the bag ans shake,” says Gale.

I use their spices and vanilla to make my favorite fall/winter recipe, Guinness Gingerbread! Here is the foolproof recipe. http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Gramercy-Tavern-Gingerbread-103087
It freezes really well too!
Thanks for all of the hard work that goes into your blog!

McCormick Sloppy Joe mix. I like to make “Sloppy Nachjoes.” Follow recipe on packet to prepare sloppy joe mix. But serve over tortilla chips and top with cheese, instead of serving on a bun.

My favorite is the McCormick Garlic Bread Sprinkle. I slice up some french bread, butter the slices, sprink the Garlic Bread Sprinkle then cover with a slice of cheese. Broil in the oven til bubbly and you have instant Garlic Cheese bread.
It’s also good on pasta dishes, like spaghetti or lasagna.

During the fall my family pursues whitetail deer for the main courses on both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Venison fillet (back-strap)marinated in Worcestershire sauce and liberally seasoned with a McCormick Steakhouse Grinder grilled medium-rare over natural coals reigns as the steak nonpareil. It is so good that it will make you swear off beef—and it also is delicious on wild duck breasts!

What’s funny is that I use so many of their products without even realizing it. The most used is probably the Grill Mates seasonings, but this time of year, it’s definitely the vanilla extract. It goes into so many of the cookies and breads that I bake. You just can’t beat a good chocolate chip cookie with pecans in it. Yum!

I call myself a McCormick cook for the busy nights when I need to throw together a meal in 30 minutes (most nights). My go to mix is the McCormick Chili, though I pretty much use all their spices!

I have always used the McCormick seasonings for my chili. I think they have one of the better Chili Powders on the market.

Funny, but I use the food coloring all the time!! Green to make green eggs and ham…my daughter won’t eat eggs and ham, until I turn them green!! Also, color mashed potatoes and those kids go to town…green snakes, pink hearts, blue clouds…I’m telling you, a little food color can make ANY food more fun and, according to my kids, color makes it taste better! LOL!

My favorite McCormick is ground mustard. I use it in one of my most cherished signature dishes. It is a pulled pork but rubbed in a dry rub of Brown Sugar, McCormick Dry ground mustard, Salt, Pepper and Paprika. Very tasty

My favorite McCormick item would have to be almond extract. I love to use it in my chocolate chip cookies. It adds and unexpected kick.

I rely on my mom’s recipe for peppermint brownies to keep me feeling popular during the holiday season (I tell myself they’re inviting me because they love ME, not just the brownies).
Essential to this party-perfect people-pleaser are McCormick’s peppermint and vanilla extracts in the brownies, as well as peppermint extract and green food coloring in the frosting.
So… where’s the next party?
