Avalon Steakhouse…going on 46 years!

What a good kept secret! Some may not take the time to drive to Sapulpa if they originate in Tulsa, but I’m telling you, Avalon Steakhouse is well worth the drive! This is by far the best Steakhouse I have ever eaten at, and the service is outstanding! A wonderful place to go on a date, special occasion, or just enjoy a nice dinner. Known by many as Tulsa’s best steakhouse since 1963, Avalon has been a very special place in this part of the country. Walking into this beautiful new building was so exciting! The Tuscany theme paired with a dim candlelit atmosphere immediately set the mood for the evening. My date and I were greeted as soon as we walked in, and immediately seated. Avalon has now been at their current location for 3 1/2 years. Before moving here they were at the original location for nearly 46 years! Now that is impressive!

Alisha was an amazing server from start to finish. After asking her to recommend the best drink on the menu, we decided to share a Long-Island Iced Tea to wind down the work week. Mmmmm was it good!!! After walking around, checking out the restaurant, I realized what rich culture this steakhouse has! The bar area was very stylish and also had a dim-lit atmosphere, perfect for a Friday night! I absolutely loved the open grill area, and decided to catch the chef in action in front of the flames.

Shortly after came out the best appetizer I have ever had in my life! Portobello Mushrooms stuffed with creamy spinach-artichoke dip, topped with sliced tomatoes and sprinkled with cheese. I could eat nothing but this for the rest of my life and be perfectly happy! The stuffing was so rich and creamy…it melted in my mouth like butter on a hot pancake! Next came out our pre-game Caesar salad and Chicken tortilla soup. The salad was piled high with fresh romaine topped with olives, homemade croĆ»tons, grated Parmesan cheese, and topped with homemade Caesar dressing! The soup had huge chunks of chicken, vegetables and other fresh ingredients engulfed by a savory soup base. Mmmm…As soon as we got done with the starters, out came a warm basket of steaming homemade bread sprinkled with cinnamon and paired with a side of fluffy whipped butter. I thought I was in heaven!

I couldn’t believe that we still had food coming, but man was I in for a surprise! All of a sudden, out of the kitchen came three large plates heading right for our table! On my plate lay Monster Alaskan King Crab Legs that looked as if they were from the dinosaur era! The remaining space was filled with fluffy mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy made from scratch! Great combination, right?

My date received a perfectly seared 1 1/2″ Filet Mignon hugged tightly with a thick strip of bacon. It was grilled to perfection, tender, and had an amazing burst of flavor! Another huge surprise was the Signature Sirloin, also so thick and juicy! Definitely in the run for one of the best steaks in Oklahoma! All of Avalon’s beef comes from Tulsa Beef & Provision Inc. and every piece of meat has been hand cut since the steakhouse opened 46 years ago! The steak fries were amazing, and had a thick, crisp texture.

fl-1Lastly, even though I was stuffed like a turkey on Thanksgiving, out came dessert! Bubbling, ooey-gooey homemade bread pudding topped with a huge portion of whipped cream and garnished with cinnamon and raisins drifted through the restaurant as the waitress set it on the table in front of us.

Thank you Linda (owner) for the over-the-top, amazing experience! I can’t wait to come back!

We haven’t been to Avalon in several years but went for a special anniversary dinner. It looks amazing and they needed a new location! We might try it for anniversary dinner again this year!

It sounds like you had an amazing experience at this steak house. Everything looks sooooo good! The mushrooms didn’t even look like mushrooms, just the way they were covered in cheese, sold me. The Filet Mignon looked great and the dessert looked like something that just be passed up. Oh, I can’t forget the bread I really like the touch of cinnamon. I haven’t been there but I think I will definitely make sure to eat there next visit to Tulsa.
