Silver Flame Can’t Burn a Hole in Your Pocket

After finishing my construction at the spa (www.spalux.org) I promised some of my construction guys that I’d take them out to a nice lunch. A few months later I finally called my tile guys and asked where they would want to go for lunch. ’There is no place better than Silver Flame for a good cheap steak’ ’ was the answer. I was not a great fan of cheap steaks, but I gave them the choice and didn’t mind checking that place out. I had driven by Silver Flame for many years and never had a chance to stop by and go inside. Somebody had told me once the place was ’a kinda dumpy’.

I was first to arrive to the lunch and the waiter offered me a table for four in their room with a fire place. The place did look run down showing years of use without significant remodeling. I sat and ordered some ice tea. My guys were late. So, I observed the interior and clientele for a few minutes. The clientele was mixed. However if the food was the same quality as the furniture and wall textures I was not going to like it ’ I thought to myself. The tea was actually good and the waiter brought out some complimentary tabouli salad with olives. Then my friends showed up and we all ordered different stakes as they had recommended. I think I had their so-called ’Kansas City Strip’. It was a large chunk of steak cooked to medium well and the taste was actually much better than I expected. It was all gone relatively quick, even the baked potato. I have to admit it was a generous portion with all of the good sides. I had no room left for desert.

By the end of the meal the owner came out and greeted my guys. They joked around. Apparently they knew him well. One of them asked about some special desert with honey and the owner got it out for him, although it was not on the menu. We finished our lunch with a cup of coffee. The total bill for four guys with relatively big appetites was around $50. I would be surprised if any steak house in town would be able to beat or even match this price. The Silver Flame didn’t burn a hole in my pocket. That was for sure.

I love Silver Flame. You really can’t beat that price for a steak lunch. I’m not personally a fan of hummus or tabouli, but my husband is happy to eat my portion.

And I hear that have fabulous cabbage rolls.

We eat at the Silver Flame almost every Friday. My husband always gets the strip steak and sometimes I do too, other times I like their cabbage rolls or the grilled salmon for a change. The same tabouli, hummus, lettuce salad and potoato (baked or fries) comes with them. The owner, Abdul, is a TU grad and big TU supporter. You sure cannot beat the price for that much food at lunch!
