It was just a few years ago when I worked downtown. At this time it was such a struggle to get a good shot of espresso within walking distance. You would imagine that every single downtown metropolitan area would at least have a Starbucks, but at this time didn’t even have that. Today I am so happy for all of the people downtown that have not just one but many coffee options. I just recently had the opportunity to visit the new Topeca coffee location inside the newly restored Mayo hotel. Even better, I got to flash them the Tulsa Food iPhone app to receive 10% off my double shot of family grown, family roasted and family brewed espresso. That all happens within the same family.

As for the taste of the espresso, I personally hold the Topeca brand as one of my favorites. With it’s super-rich earthy flavor and amazing aftertaste that is hard to interrupt with any flavor for a few hours, there is nothing like the rich taste of Topeca espresso on the tip of my tongue. It is some of the best ground espresso I have ever tasted. This was something that I discovered during frequent visits to Coffee House on Cherry Street where you can also experience Topeca coffee.

If there is one thing I know, making a good shot of espresso is a very difficult thing. Most places just can’t get it right. However, when I need that perfect shot of flavor, energy and as weird as it is, whatever happens mentally when devouring that shot…I know there are a few places I can get it in town. For all you Tulsa Downtowner’s, I wish I could join you for a daily cup of espresso. Someday I hope to, but for now it is nice to see that there are a few good options downtown for you.

All we drink at home is Topeca espresso roast. The first time I went in and bought $50 worth of espresso beans, I got some strange looks. They are getting used to me now though… !! I have got two family memebers in KS addicted to Topeca coffee as well. They order online/over the phone. It would make a great Christmas present or hostess gift during the holiday season.

My favorite coffee in Tulsa. In addition to selling their beans in their shop in the Mayo Hotel, they now sell them in local Reasor’s grocery stores. How awesome is that?

OK yes this is a million years late but I really have been thinking about doing this for the last million years; or maybe just 3 months. I wanted to say thanks, thanks, and thanks. To McCullough and to all the responders and everyone who has supported us through out the years. We are excited about the future as the new harvest will be coming in less than two months and this year there are more varietals and more variety of coffees. We will also be moving our roastery soon to a bigger and better location where people can come visit! Follow us on Twitter or facebook to keep up to date. PS we have a public cupping tomorrow the 16th at Cafe Topeca.

Also as far as espresso. We have two grinders now for espresso at the cafe. Once with our house blend and one for rotating microlots. Write now we have the last of our pacamara for this last season in it. It is super viscus and covers the tongue with brown sugar. Its the coffee Johnny our roaster used in the South Central Barista Competition last week. Come try it before it is gone.
