Baxter’s is a branch off the original Interurban Grill, but Owner Craig Baxter has made this restaurant his own personal creation in Downtown Tulsa. Interurban Restaurants began in 1976 when the Founders opened in Norman’s abandoned Interurban Trolley Station. Interurban is a casual and fun concept featuring a wide variety of menu items catering to families, busy business professionals, young high school and college singles, and baby boomers of all ages.
At Baxters Interurban Grill, the food is great! Consisting of great American cuisine, traditional fare and unique dishes expertly prepared, you won’t find anything but fresh quality food, reasonable prices, a casual atmosphere and great service. There is a wide variety of healthy items as well as hearty favorites and all soups and sauces are made from scratch.
My friend and I started off with the Toasted Artichoke Hearts. If you like artichokes, you will love these Italian marinated artichoke hearts topped with Swiss and Parmesan cheeses. I loved the unique flavor of the Italian dressing combined with the fresh steamed artichokes. The cheeses really made the dish pop!
For my entree I ordered the lunch portion. It was the perfect amount for both a dinner or a lunch! Tortellini with creamy tomato basil pesto sauce and a Caesar side salad with a nice buttery roll on the side. This tortellini had a great flavor, perfectly cooked to al dente. The sauce had a nice burst of Italian spices…the perfect mixture of chopped garlic, sautéed onions, sweet onions and extra virgin olive oil. The Caesar salad was what I expected, just a nice mix of romaine lettuce, croûtons, Parmesan and creamy dressing.
My friend drooled over the Honey Pepper Bacon Burger with fries. A juicy, thick patty with 2 pieces of thick cheddar cheese, caramelized honey bacon hanging off the edges of the burger, and a nice toasted bun holding everything together. My friend said that this is the best bacon he has ever tasted! Even I was in shock at how beautiful this bacon was. We asked the owner, Craig how he gets such great bacon. He informed us that at Baxters, the meat is cut and smoked in house. After smoking it for hours, it is caramelized in a honey glaze and sprinkled with thick crushed pepper . The fries are nicely seasoned and went very well in a nice side of house-made ranch!
For dessert, we had a beautiful 3-layered carrot cake. This was no ordinary cake. Three layers of moist, rich cake with coconut and pecans dispersed throughout then spread with thick-n-creamy cream cheese icing. Oh boy was I in heaven!
