Tucked neatly behind Long John Silvers/A&W between a liquor store and a Chinese restaurant on the NW corner of 21st and Garnett resides some of the most amazing grilled chicken ever. The place is called El Super Pollo, which I find to be humorous considering the mash of English and Spanish in its name. It [...]

Tres Leches Cake – Pancho Anaya
July 23rd, 2010 by Jeff C. – Comments (9)
Tres Leches (Three Milk ) Cake has become a weakness in my life. I have tried many versions but my favorite is the first one that I tried several years back. None of that strawberry filling stuff, just great dense sweet cake and sweeter milk. It is the made by the folks at Pancho Anaya. [...]
Korean Garden – Another World
July 20th, 2010 by Brian Schwartz – Comments (3)
“If you took a picture here,” I told my friends, “you could tell people you just got back from Korea.” But I didn’t want to disturb the tables full of Korean families eating, Korean teenagers entertaining their dates, and so I didn’t. But I did photograph the food, and if I told someone who knew [...]
The Junkyard Dawg
July 1st, 2010 by Kristie Moon – Comments (7)
The Junkyard Dawg opened a little while ago and peaked my curiosity immediately. I’m a massive hot dog (which I will be spelling dawg from now on) lover and am always interested in trying new places that serve them. Always on the lookout for the perfect dawg. Well driving home one day I noticed the [...]
Sweet Lisa’s Cafe…No One Leaves Hungry
June 18th, 2010 by Brian Schwartz – Comments (6)
Tulsa has more great fried fish and pork and chicken places than any city has a right to expect, from Evelyn’s by the airport to Lazy Fisherman way down south in Bixby. But Sweet Lisa’s just might win the crown. A place like that in New York would have lines out the door. Sweet Lisa’s [...]
Introducing the Gas Station of the Future…A Must-See!
May 28th, 2010 by bpmccullough – Comments (18)
To quote a random customer in the store, “the only thing that this QuikTrip is missing is a basketball court and video games”. He was pretty much right. Be proud Oklahoma, the QuikTrip at 129th/Olive & 51st is the gas station of the future. This store has everything from take-home evening meals to Habenero Lime flavoring added to any drink or ice-cream treat.

Kung Fu Kitchen – Good, Fast, Friendly
April 16th, 2010 by Jeff C. – Comments (0)
So I admit that when it comes to Asian Cuisine, I may not be looking for all that authentic. Maybe my general dislike of fish flavors. Growing up in the country, we would only eat at a Chinese place maybe twice a year. But in those non-authentic versions, there is still a world of difference [...]
Rioberto’s – Drive Thru Mexican Food
April 13th, 2010 by Jeff C. – Comments (6)
It’s 4 am on Saturday morning and you are starving. I am not going to ask why you are up or what you were/are doing but still you are hungry. You don’t want to eat at the normal fast food place but you don’t want to go in somewhere because, face it, no one looks [...]
Asian Cuisine – Another Authentic Chinese Meal
April 8th, 2010 by Brian Schwartz – Comments (9)
“Ninety percent of our customers are Oriental,” said the owner. “They want authentic food and they’ll know if we don’t serve them the best.” We were sitting in a tiny, gleaming-clean restaurant way out east near Mingo waiting for the owner’s husband. He’s the chef but he’d gone to pick up their daughter from school. [...]
Fiesta Del Mar – Mexican Shrimp Cocktail
April 7th, 2010 by Jeff C. – Comments (8)
After a good exercise, I find that nothing beats getting a Mexican Shrimp Cocktail (Camaron Cockteles). For those unaware of such a creation, it is not unlike a traditional shrimp cocktail, except the Mexicans put these shrimps in a more of a soup like base than a cocktail sauce on the side. Similar taste but [...]
Guang Zhou – Authentic Chinese Food in Tulsa
April 1st, 2010 by Brian Schwartz – Comments (18)
Finally, an authentic Chinese restaurant in Tulsa. People sometimes ask me what I miss most about New York. They expect me to say the crowds, or the theatres, or the boundless wave-tossed sea. I always answer, Chinese restaurants. Entering a Chinese restaurant in New York, whether it’s hidden in an alley in the depths of [...]
El Mercadito…Best Chicharrones in Town
March 19th, 2010 by Jeff C. – Comments (6)
Since I first started reading Tulsa Food Blog, I been wanting to contribute. Now that I finally have a phone with a decent camera in it, I intend to introduce people to the places that I frequent. I live on the north east side of town. It seems to be an area that gets little [...]
