With a unique approach to creating and presenting some of the most beautiful dishes in town, executive Chef Justin Thompson decided to create one of the specials that will be available during Restaurant Week. We also had the pleasure to speak with manager Mark Shefield at Sonoma Wine Bar and Bistro. Located in modern and creative restaurant/shopping district- Brookside, this is just one of the many restaurants offering 3 Course fixed-price Specials this week. The owner of Sonoma Wine Bar & Bistro, Tim Baker also owns The Brasserie right next to Sonoma. Justin Thompson is also the executive chef at the Brasserie. The Brasserie is also participating in Restaurant Week, and offers a unique, elegant experience with “the best patio in town.” Tim’s inspiration for the Brasserie came from the beautiful French restaurants in Paris.
We decided to take it upon ourselves to visit Sonoma Wine Bar and Bistro to find out exactly what they would be offering during this annual event. Restaurant Week is September 13-19th. Its purpose is to help raise public awareness of problem of hunger in Oklahoma. Ten percent of each meal will be donated to the local Food Bank to help fund our Food 4 Kids Programs.
This romantic yet comfortable venue presented an array of classic style and chic design. It would be a great place for a date. The focal point that is emphasized when stepping foot inside this bold locale is the beautiful bar with over 100 wines to choose from. Offering 50 white and 50 red wines, Sonoma Specializes in many varieties from local and casual to foreign and sophisticated. They specialize in only the finest New World Style wines from California to New Zealand and also carry 39 hand-crafted micro-brewed beers.
First we feasted our eyes on the Spinach and Goat cheese salad with Warm bacon vinaigrette. At Sonoma Wine Bar & Bistro, all dressings and sauces are homemade.
Second, we had the chance to see the BBQ Salmon Tamale topped with sweet corn relish and paired with a homemade stuffed jalapeno. Atop a bed of fresh, locally purchased spinach was a corn husk filled with masa and topped with a very generous portion of fresh caught salmon. The salmon was then topped with Corn relish consisting of tomatoes, onions, and sweet corn and mixed with herbs and spices. Oklahoma’s own, Head Country BBQ sauce was then drizzled over the top of the entree. The fresh jalapenwas hollowed out and filled with cream cheese and cheddar cheese, coated in batter and deep fried to a golden brown..Viola!
Lastly, my favorite part…Dessert. Warm Mixed berry struesel paired with Vanilla bean ice cream! The delicate struesel topping looked like it could crumble off onto the plate. Mmmm…I bet mixed with the ice cream, is an explosion in your mouth!
September is Hunger Action Month. Restaurant Week is the perfect time to sample some of Tulsa’s finest restaurants at a great price and help fight hunger. During Restaurant Week, you can enjoy three-course, fixed-price lunches for just $12.95 and three-course, fixed-price dinners for just $29.95.
These are only 2 of the great restaurants participating in Restaurant Week. Here is a list of many other awesome local restaurants!

Wow! All that food! I have been wanting to try a few of these places for a long time. Normally I always just order a burger everywhere I go,but dang. Count me in.

Your missing a lot if you only eat burgers. Time to broaden your horizons. Not to mention the cholesterol factor!!

While this article showcases one of the participating restaurants this is a great week to try places you don’t normally go. With the Prix Fixe menus at all the restaurants you get to try a little of what each restaurant has to offer. Many times it is much cheaper than any other time of the year. This only happens once a year and it is for a good cause. Although the Tulsa Community Food Bank benefits and accepts donations all year. Hopefully this event will continue to grow with more participants next year. ITS FOR A GOOD CAUSE and is great advertising and marketing for the restaurants. Next year I would like to see the restaurants post menus for the week on various websites.

This is one of my favorite places for lunch. We go about once a week. I almost always order the Salmon Tamale with Mocha Pudding Cake for dessert. It looks like I need to try the salad some time.
