Sometimes just eating out for a special occasion isn’t good enough. I know I personally enjoy dinner and a show, or some type of 3-phase night that involves great food and entertainment. At Shogun, for a friends birthday we got our 3-phases all in one place. After a drink at the bar, we were seated at a clean u-shaped table surrounding a large open-faced hibachi grill.

Since we were in a big room, we could see people all around us enjoying their evening as we awaited our very own master chef. One thing you can count on if it is a special occasion at Shogun is them making your experience extra special, as they did for us. After our waiter explained the process and asked for our drink orders, we made our minds up what we wanted to eat. The choices were pretty much between seafood, chicken, beef and a vegetarian dish. I had the scallops and shrimp with brown rice. Everyone else in the party pretty much had a mixture of chicken and beef. As we waited for our personal chef to arrive, within 10 minutes, we saw a total of 3 large flames flaring up around us. One noticeable feature that really sets the tone in the room at Shogun is the beautiful coy pond that splits the room down the center. This pond included small water features, Japanese figurines, and other beautiful artistry. Before we knew it our chef was before us preparing the grill for what was about to be our entertainment for the night.

After introducing himself with a bow, he started his culinary expertise. Lining up a tall structure of onions with a hole in the center, he filled it up with oil. After lighting the oil on fire, a large flame flared up in the center of the grill. Surprising most of us, the chef smiled as if he had done it a million times. Chefs at Shogun are very well trained and create an experience out of the night. Besides flaming onions, he did entertaining things like juggling cooking utensils, spinning and catching an egg with his metal spatula, and tossing shrimp into the air. He even let our friend, the birthday boy, try one of these acts: spinning and tossing the egg. Looking so easy, my friend decided to try it. Needless to say, he didn’t quite have as much experience and ended up accidentally tossing the egg across the grill, onto the table knocking his beer over onto our friend on the opposite side of the table. Thankfully, laughed it off and jumped up before the entire glass spilt in her lap.

While our entrees were being cooked, a side salad with a delectable sweet peanut dressing was brought out to each of us. The meat was cooked perfectly, and had good flavor. The scallops I ordered were exceptionally good and topped with a white cream sauce. The rice was fluffy, flavorful and had a beautiful texture. Most people at the table ordered fried rice that had been cooked right in front of us, but I decided to try the brown rice…Loved it! Mmm…I could eat that stuff for breakfast!
To cleanse our palette, our waiter brought out some green tea. While enjoying each other, laughing and sipping on our tea, we were offered a few choices for dessert. The choices were between sherbet, vanilla, strawberry and chocolate ice cream. A perfect portion and sweetness to top off the evening.
If you have a special occasion coming up, Shogun is sure to make any evening special. An array of entertainment for a decent price.
