Looking for Great Sushi?

February 19th, 2010 by Lori Crockett – Comments (14)

Sushi is my favorite food, so anytime I hear of a new sushi place opening I always want to try it out. Recently my husband and I visited the new Osaka in Broken Arrow. We originally went to try the hibachi, and our first visit was New Years Eve. They had apparently WAY overbooked, so we did sushi instead. It was REALLY GOOD! We ordered the Sooner Roll, The Kamikazi, another roll with calamari in it, and then also requested a tuna and avocado roll, not on the menu. We also asked if they had Seaweed Salad (not on the menu) and got that too. The rolls are about 8 large pieces and we really only needed to order three.

Tuna Sashimi

Since then we have been back three other times, once for the hibachi and twice more for sushi. We’ve also tried their Graduation roll, their tuna nigiri, and a few other rolls. My favorite is the Sooner, my husband’s is the Graduation, but they’ve all been great that we’ve tried.

Unfortunately the service is hit or miss. The first night we went our server was wonderful, although I know a lot of people were very angry that night because they had to wait over an hour for reservations for the hibachi. The next time we went the service was not great, the third time it was horrible (brought out incorrect rolls (multiple times), had to be asked three times to bring out a drink for a member of our party, messed up ours and the other couple’s ticket), but this last time we went it was wonderful again.

They need to invest some time in training their staff, but the food is enough to keep us going back (we’re hoping since they’re new, the staff situation will work itself out). Average price is about $8 for a roll, and it has a great atmosphere as well.

Osaka does have some decent food but the service really leaves something to be desired. When you get to the bottom line, it is technically a chain restaurant. If you want Really Great shushi, I highly recommend, locally owned, Flying Fish Sushi Bar at 108th & Memorial in Bixby. My mom grew up in Japan and consequently I grew up with a very heavy Japanese influence. I know great sushi when I find it, and in NE Oklahoma, Flying Fish has it.

I sincerely hope the service is better than the 51st St location. I took my family there for dinner one night and I was mistakenly under the impression that they served sushi as well. When I asked the waitress about it you would’ve thought I just asked for a cheeseburger! She was very hateful and rude. Overall the service was poor and the food mediocre. We’ve never gone back, but I think we’ll give this new location a try for our next sushi craving. The photos are absolutely mouth-watering!

My husband and I went to Osaka last night. The service was as you said horrible, and the food was mediocre at best. I think there are better places in Tulsa to get sushi and hibachi. Probably won’t go back.

Went to Osaka Sunday, mindful that a lot of people here and at work have mentioned poor service, it was a good “show” but I definitely felt like they get you in and out FAST, it was a birthday dinner and they left us no time to socialize. Probably won’t go back for hibachi, can say I’ve been there, done that.

Horrible. They tried way too hard to make the place look trendy, but the service and experience was very low par. They tried way too hard to make the plate look nice, but the food was sub=par. Over salty, over greasy, over stylized. Screams Inexperience. Should have started with a small, intimate setting and learned what they were doing before opening up this silly excuse for a restaurant. Go to Memories of Japan or Sushi House in B.A. if you care about Sushi. Steer clear of this place.

They lost a good customer here…terrible service and the shrimp made myself and my friend extremely ill and when confronted they responded that we must have been sick already!
